The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has increased the minimum wage for workers from 40,000 to 70,000. The new salary takes effect from 1 May 2024.
The governor announced the inauguration of the newly built ultra-modern Labour House secretariat complex for labour unions in the State, along Temboga Road, Ikpoba-Hill, Benin.
The governor reiterated his commitment to protecting the welfare of workers and maximizing their productivity.

The governor, however, did not stop there as he did the extraordinary by naming the Labour House After his predecessor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, to the surprise of the guests present at the occasion.
The occasion also saw the Presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) being among the guests.
Oshiomhole, a former NLC President, fell off with Governor Obaseki during the 2020 re-election polls.
NLC president Joe Ajaero commended Governor Obaseki for his great feat and described him as a true friend of the workers.
Governor Godwin Obaseki was one of the governors who paid the 40 thousand nairas minimum wage before now when the federal government has yet to reach that amount.
