The Ogun state Police Command said it had arrested a murder suspect linked to the killing of Oluwabukonola and Kehinde Fatinoye.

The duo were assassinated on new year's day in their Government Reservation Area, GRA residence in Ibara, Abeokuta.

The incident happened after the couple had just returned from a church service.

The killers abducted their son and housemaid and then set the corpses on fire.

It was gathered that Oluwabukonola was a former staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and her husband, Kehinde, a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi, the investigation is still ongoing while the suspect remains in custody.

The police confirmed the report: "It is true that a couple was killed and set ablaze at their residence in Abeokuta shortly after they returned from Crossover Service.

"This is a clear case of assassination and we are not leaving any stone unturned to unravel those behind the killings. One person has been arrested by our operatives in connection to the incident. We will get to the root of the matter, as investigation has since begun," Oyeyemi said.

The couple was buried on Monday, 2nd of January, 2023.

SK Oyewale conducted the burial service, which took place at the Christ Anglican Church in the Iporo-Ake area of the town on Monday.
