A pharmacy student of Igbinedion University, Okada, has been shot dead in Edo State.
Olajide Sowore, a brother to a Nigerian activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, was shot dead by unsuspecting kidnappers by Isiuwa Junction along the Ore-Benin expressway.
The gunmen also abducted five other persons during the incident in the early hours of Saturday, 4 September 2021.
Standard Gazette gathered that the gunmen blocked the road and opened fire, forcing the driver to stop the car abruptly.
Olajide was hit by a stray bullet and died on the spot.
The other five victims were led into the forest by their abductors.
Edo state Public Relations Officer SP Bello Kontongs said efforts had been put in place by the police to rescue the five persons unhurt.
The police said his lifeless body had been deposited in the mortuary.
Meanwhile, Olajide’s older brother, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters Omoyele Sowore, attributed the killing of his brother and the abduction to herdsmen activities in the state.
Omoyele said, “My immediate younger brother Olajide Sowore was today shot and killed by reportedly herdsmen/kidnappers on his way from Igbinedion University, Okada, where he is studying Pharmacy. They snuffed life out of him.”
