Only Nigeria Will Pay For The Rail Line To Niger Republic – Amaechi

The minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi has stated that the Nigerian government alone will pay for the rail line from Nigeria to Niger.

The Kano to Maradi rail line will connect the two countries together and ensure that goods are transported from the North African country to Nigeria.

Amaechi was reacting to a question on Channels TV’s sunrise daily stated that the business activities along that line are the way through which the Niger Republic can pay for the rail line.

Ayo Makinde, Presenter Question – “Will Niger Republic be paying for any part of the rail line from Maradi to Kano?”

Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi Answered – “They don’t have to because we are soliciting for them to use our service”

“They will bring their uranium, gold through the line to Lagos. They will stay overnight, eat, maybe drink and buy things in shops. This will help pay for the rail”.

Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil has started working on the $1.8bn railway track that will link Nigeria and Niger in West Africa.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site of a proposed station in Katsina’s Makira last week.
