A Benin based lawyer, Barrister Jefferson Uwoghiren has blamed the Uromi Chiefs and nobles who their Onogie had been suspended by the Edo State government
Edo State government suspended His Royal HIghness Anselm O Aidenojie, the Onojie of Uromi from office for seven days over his alleged physical attack on a woman in the village.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Julius Ihonvbere dated October 26, 2016, titled “Suspension from Office as Traditional Ruler”, states: “I write to convey to you, the decision of the Edo State Executive Council at its meeting on the 26th October 2016, suspending you from office for 7 days as Onojie of Uromi. The suspension from office was based on, among other reasons:
‘Your unprovoked attack, inflicting grievous bodily harm on one Mrs Betty Okoebor on September 28, 2016 in full public glare to the embarrassment of those present and causing disgrace to your otherwise esteemed office”
The decision has raised a flag as sons and daughters of the town have described the development as unwelcoming.
Uwoghiren in his view blamed Uromi people who he believed had failed their Onojie who had resorted in physically attacking one of his subjects despite is traditional position.
Uwoghiren said “As a Monarchist ,i am concerned at the reported suspension of the Onogie of Uromi,following the weighty allegation of battery and assault on a hapless lady. As a first class traditional ruler ,the unfortunate incident, the resultant suspension and IMF conditionalities is a culmination of altered vernacular acculturization and culture clash that has hallmarked the Onogie’s reign since the famed ” arrest” of late Archbishop Benson Idahosa in Uromi over twenty years ago at the Commissioning of his Church.
“It is a very unfortunate development that could have been avoided ,if Uromi Chiefs and Nobles had raised the right objections ,when in 2012, Hon.John Yakubu, suffered the same fate. The same Yakubu: the cause of the expensive recompense that led to the assault.
“A Tiger does not proclaim its tigritude!!! When a king begins to personally and physically announce his arrivals, his relevance is subject to questioning . Since the Onogie, as a royal father, was and still is predisposed to violent and physical corrections, his Chiefs ought to have provided or assign to him,”Royal Slappers” or ” Crown Egbewejas” and make them permanent features of his entourage.”
The barrister opined that Uromi people failed the Onogie, contrary to many views that the Onojie acted out of one of his known duties.
He warned that rather than protesting and engaging in solidarity visits, the Esan Council of Traditional Rulers should step up and proffer solution to the embarrassing problem.
“Uromi people failed the Onogie! They allowed and encouraged all these royal rumbles and ” Snake in the Monkey Shadows!” Uromians,this is not the time for meaningless protests and solidarity visits .It’s time for Diplomacy. Not the Igueben variant though. The Esan Council of Traditional Rulers should meet immediately and help to resolve this matter.
“This is not the time to test the Will of government and enact the Deji of Akure scenario.” He concluded.
