A mobile payment platform and financial service provider, Opay has announced an N300,000 annual scholarship to 20 exceptional Students at the University of Ibadan in Oyo state in a new memorandum of Understanding, MOU signed with the Premier Institution recently.
According to the company, this initiative represents more than just financial support; it is a long-term commitment to academic excellence and the future of Nigerian education.
Opay offers a variety of services, primarily in countries across Africa and Asia. It was launched in 2018 by Opera, the company behind the Opera web browser.
The financial institution provides a range of financial products, including mobile payments, money transfers, bill payments, ride-hailing, food delivery, and other on-demand services, all through its mobile app.
“Our Scholarship Program doesn’t stop here. This initial partnership is only the beginning as we aim to extend our reach to 20 Universities Nationwide, supporting a remarkable 400 students each year. With an annual investment of N120 million, OPay will contribute a total of over N1.2B to empower young Nigerians and drive positive change across the nation’s academic landscape.” the statement read.
Recall that the platform, which is among financial Technology organizations accredited by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to carry out financial activities in the country, is known for its focus on improving financial inclusion.
It enables users to easily send and receive money, pay for goods and services, and access loans and savings features without needing a traditional bank account.
