‎The Edo State House of Assembly and the National Drug Enforcement Agency have given a contrary narration of the shooting that occurred in Owan West that killed one person and injured many others .

In the version from the state legislative arm, the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku  expressed deep disappointment and condemnation over a violent incident that occurred in esan west local government area of Edo state.

‎The speaker during  Tuesday, plenary session revealed that armed men in Nigeria Army uniforms and NDLEA uniforms had stormed Ukpoji Ward 8  in Owan West Local Government Area on Monday night, opening fire on residents, resulting in one death and six severe injuries.

According to the speaker, “The assembly is calling on relevant authorities to take immediate action and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice as we are not in a banana Republic where anything goes.”

‎However, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo on their part  says its Personnel and those of the Nigerian Army came under heavy attack from suspected drug barons in Ukpuje, Owan West local government area of the state.

In a statement by the Edo NDLEA commander, Mitchel Ofoyeju, said the incident happened in the early hours of October 27 during a joint operation to dismantle cannabis farms in the area.

He said the security team was ambushed by armed cultivators who opened fire in an attempt to thwart the operation.

“The officers came under intense gunfire from drug cultivators and traffickers as they advanced into Ukpuje,” he said.

He added that the team engaged the attackers briefly before making a tactical withdrawal to prevent casualties.

“One of our officers sustained injuries after being struck by a sharp object during the confrontation but has since received medical attention and is now stable,” the NDLEA commander said.
