In October, last year, different dailies both national and local and blogs including content creators had screaming headlines stating how a girl killed her ex-boyfriend and friends after they ate pepper soup prepared by her.

The situation attracted the attention of the Nigeria Police who took the accused girl to custody and subsequently charged her to court.

Narrating her ordeal, the girl Ashiat Suleiman said trouble started when she parted ways with the late ex-boyfriend and father of the late young man who stopped her from coming to their house.

Aishiat said on the fateful day, her former boyfriend and some of his friends died while she was at Iyakpi whereas the incident happened at Afasio in Etsako West local government area of Edo state as she heard from others.

She said she was surprised a few days later when a friend called and her picture was all over social media posted by a guy nicknamed “Eze na Japan”.

According to her, if not for the intervention of a local vigilance member who called the police and security personnel who rescued and whisked her away from the hands of the assailants she would have been lynched and burnt alive.

Counsel to the Accused Ibude Osamwomyi said he decided to pick up the case after being convinced by some friends mostly human rights Activists and discovered at the end that the girl was framed, a situation that made the DPP let her go since the death of the boys was attributed to generator fumes left inside where they slept.

The Father of the girl Mr Suleiman said it was truly a harrowing and agonising experience as the family is already taking legal action against the man who gave false information about his daughter.

A human rights Activist Roy Oribabhor, one of those who drew the attention of the counsel to intervene said they noticed from the onset that there might be foul play hence they contacted their lawyer friend to intervene.

The last might not have been heard on the issue as the family of the freed girl vowed to press charges against the said Eze na Japan that defamed their daughter.
