The chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State, Margaret Inde during the 30th anniversary of the creation of the LGA presented tubers of yam, hoes, and cutlasses to some citizens.
The celebration also doubled as a New Yam Festival. Sharing on her social media page, Inde added that an education trust fund with three million Naira has been launched for vulnerable children in the LGA.
Reactions have trailed this gesture by Inde, the local government chairman, especially as the pictures have circulated on social media.
Nigerian politicians are known to present impossible items to their constituents, ranging from Shehu Sani's transistor radio while he was Senator, to ropes, goats, wooden bridges commissioned with pomp and pageantry. Margaret Inde's empowerment programme might just be one of the best yet. Toothbrush empowerment for brighter teeth may be coming soon.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
