Police arrest 7 service policemen in Edo over corruption

Police X-squad have arrested seven serving policemen in Edo State for engaging in alleged corruption and other ill acts in the police force.

The officers are currently facing orderly room and other disciplinary actions.

The arrested officers are ASP Godspower Ijebu with force No. 135192, Inspector Ebatamole Philip Force No. 1999776, Insp. Ademola Benjamin Force No. 271855, Insp. Inaite Vincent Force No. 271825, Insp. Robert Esikise Force No. 271897, Insp. Adefaye Samuel Force No. 20071 and Corporal Victor Osabuohien with Force No. 524971.

According to a statement signed by the Edo State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, the police authority in the state got an online video where one officer, a corporal, was spotted engaging in extortion conversation with a road user identified as Arc Bolu.

According to the statement, "The Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, has set up an Ad-hoc Committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner of police in charge of Operations, ACP James Chu with phone number 080355112263 and the command's Provost Marshall CSP Avanrenren Godwin with phone number 08058813590 who will serve as the Deputy Chairman of the Committee.

The police statement said the Committee is to checkmate all official corruption cases by Edo state policemen.

The team will also investigate and recommend relevant disciplinary actions for such erring officers.

The police advised anyone who is a victim of corruption and extortion from police officers to call the approved phone numbers for immediate action.
