Police Arrest Alleged Kidnapper Armed Robber In Aduwawa Benin

A man has been arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the Edo State Police command.

Yusuf Aliu, 22, is a suspected kidnapper believed to belong to a gang that has been terrorizing Benin-Auchi Road, Edo State.

The crime unit arrested Yusuf at the old road in Aduwawa in Benin.

The police said Aliu is the leader of a gang of 4 alleged kidnappers that abducted one Lucky Ojezele at Idumwunegie in Uhumwuode local government area of Edo State on May 5, 2021.

Police had earlier arrested a member of the gang, Philemon Timothy, while Yusuf escaped.

Philemon confessed to Yusuf as a gang member after his arrest.

During interrogation, Yusuf confessed to kidnapping and armed robbery.

The police said it is working round the clock to clamp down on the rest of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, urged residents to go about their lawful businesses.

He said the command would not relent in its effort towards protecting lives and properties.
