- Recovers snatched car in Enugu State
Four suspected dare devil armed robbers said to be terrorising Edo central and environs in Edo state have been arrested by men of the Edo state police command.
The suspects were arrested moment after one of their violent operations in Uromi, Edo state.
The suspects, Yahaya Musa, Isah Ismaila, Osas Amas and Nathaniel Omozebagua, belong to an alleged gang of armed robbers terrorising Esan land in Edo state.
They were said to be responsible for the snatching of cars and attacks of Point of sales shops in the locality.
Yahaya Musa, Osas Amas and Nathaniel Omozebagua procured guns from Idah in Kogi state, which they used in their various operations.
They had allegedly snatched several cars in Esan land, which they sold in the Northern part of Nigeria.
The suspects stormed a Point of sales shop in Uromi, Edo state, where they robbed freely and carted away the sum of N5.2m.
But the owner of the shop used his car to give the armed men who came on a motorcycle a hot pursuit.
Luck ran against them as they were knocked down by the car. Two other suspects escaped while one of them sustained severe injuries.
The police, however, travelled to Enugu state to arrest the second suspect while the third suspect was arrested in the hospital in Benin city, where he was receiving treatment after he was knocked down.
The last suspect was arrested in Ekpoma. Speaking with standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe, the owner of the POS shop, said, “The armed men ordered me to surrender my money and mobile phones, which l did.
“But I had the courage to use my car to pursue them, where l brought one of them down because they used a motorcycle. I want the police to help me recover my money”.
One of the suspects said, “I brought the guns we used from Idah in Kogi state through River Niger to Illushi near Ubiaja in Edo state.
“We usually plan our armed robbery operation in Uromi. All of us have robbed in different places four times”.
Another suspect told Standard Gazette that “I was arrested for kidnapping in 2016 and spent three years in prison before they released me because the complainant did not come to court again. After then, l have robbed four times in Esan land.”
Contacted for comment, Edo state Public Relations Officer SP Bello Kontongs assures that all the suspects will be profiled and charge to court soon.
