Edo police command has arrested two men for unlawful possession of firearms and secret cult-related offences.
One of the suspects, Kingsley Philip, was arrested by joint police and vigilante team during a routine patrol along Ologbosere Street in the Okhoro area of Benin City.
Kingsley, 20, was found with one locally-made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge.
Standard Gazette gathered that he is a member of a deadly secret cult in Benin.
The police said the suspect would be charged in court after the investigation was concluded.
On 24 April 2022, at about 4.30 pm, officers arrested Abdulrazaq Iliasu, a 20-year-old commercial bus driver, along Benin-Auch road in Edo State.
Abdulrazaq was in possession of a pump-action gun and three live cartridges when he was arrested.
The police said the suspects claimed the firearm belonged to his older brother, who is a member of the vigilante but also claimed he had forgotten the address.
An investigation has since commenced, and the suspect will be charged to court, according to the police.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, restated his commitment to a crime-free Edo State.
