Police Boss Orders Investigation Into Escapees From Police Detention In Benin

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape of 10 suspects who were lawfully detained in the facility of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Edo state police command in Benin city.

The message of the Inspector General of Police was delivered by the Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of Zone five, Benin city, AIG SHOLA DAVID.

The Police AIG also visited the detention facility where it was discovered that it was never broken by the escapees.

The police authority is to sanction all the policemen who were on duty when the suspects escaped from lawful custody.

It was discovered that 10 suspects escaped at about 2.45 am on the 1st of January, 2021 from the police custody.

The police investigative team is expected to unravel the circumstances surrounding the escape to prevent future occurrence.

The AIG later directed that the police detention facility in state police command headquarters be fortified immediately.
