The Edo State Police Command has further demonstrated its commitment to combating cult operations and restoring public confidence with the arrest of 16 suspected cultists and the recovery of 5 firearms, 18 rounds of ammunition, and 2 battle axes.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, CSP Joel Yamu.
The statement confirmed the arrest of members of rival cult groups such as the Maphites, Vikings, Aye Confraternity, and the Neo Black Movement (Black Axe).
The latest being one Jerry Orobor, a 50-year-old man, in Amagba community, where a police raid on his residence led to the recovery of one automatic double-barrel shotgun, ten live cartridges, and a face cap bearing the logo of the Aye Confraternity
Similarly, on June 28th, 33-year-old Bello Salami, identified as a member of the Maphite Confraternity and linked to the recent killing of three vigilante members along Wire Road in Benin City, was arrested.
The PPRO noted that all suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured the public of the Command’s sustained fight against cultism and urged residents to report suspicious activities without hesitation.
In his words: The police commissioner has mandated the operatives to ensure the state is rid of cult related crime as the bad name such activities have given to the state won’t be condoned, the statement concluded”.
