The Edo State police command has refuted the report that some police offers were seen allegedly receiving bribes from market women to sell their wares at Ekiosa market in Benin City.
NAIJA CENTER had on Wednesday reported that police officers received bribes from Ekiosa market women in violation of the Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration.
In a telephone interview with NAIJA CENTER correspondent, the Edo State PRO, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, refuted the reported, noting that it was false.
“That is not true, because the commissioner of police in Edo state Lawal Tanko Jimeta in company of other stakeholders like Police Community relations Committee are being engaged in this duty of going round the city to implement this restriction order by the state government.
And we have been to several markets including the present day market in Edo. What do I mean by that? The market men and women how they relocated from their main markets to a primary school in Edo state, so I don’t think that information is correct because the officers are not positioned there.”
DSP Chili went further to debunk the story, noting that the l8lice
Police offers are in the company of senior offers Luke the Commissioner or Area Commandant.
“The officers go about visiting these places with the commissioner of Police or the Area commandant or the DPOS that have jurisdiction in these places I just mentioned. So I don’t think that information is correct.
