The Edo State Police Command has exhumed the bodies of two kidnapped victims allegedly murdered by their abductors in Isiukhu Community, Ovia North East Local Government Area.
The grim discovery followed the arrest of a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate who led operatives to the burial site, weeks after the victims were abducted and despite the payment of ransom by their families, were killed.
However, it was tears, tension and sorrow as in Isiukhu Community, Ovia North East Local Government Area, where the 24-year-old suspect, Haruna Musa, led officers of the Violent Crimes Response Unit to the spot where the two kidnapped victims were buried.
May 9th, 2026, was when kidnappers stormed the home of one of the deceased, 66-year-old Favour Nosakhare, in Iyowa, making away with the deceased, her daughter and their maid.
Victim and daughter to one of the deceased, Annabelle Emmanuel, revealed her family paid a ransom of eleven million naira alongside other demands by the kidnappers, but her mother and others were still killed.
“When they kidnapped my mother and sister, they agreed to collect 11 million Naira from us after much negotiation, and we followed their directive accordingly and dropped the money from them, but unfortunately they refused to release our mother, sister and maid to us, only for us to discover later that they have been killed”
The suspect, Haruna Musa, who is a cow herder, revealed that the group is a seven-man gang that has been terrorising the Benin-Lagos and Benin-Akure expressways.
He added that he was lured into the gang by a member identified as “Doctor.”
“I was into cow herding when I ran into this gang in the bush, and when I was approached, I joined them. We are many; they are still inside the bush.”
Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, revealed that the command secured the release of victims on May 19 and subsequently arrested the suspect through intelligence-led operations.
“The Edo State police command didn’t relent and swung into action, which has yielded positive results, and I am assuring the public that others will be apprehended”.
