Police kill suspected kidnapper at Benin bypass in Edo state

A middle-aged man has been shot dead in Benin, Edo State.

The suspect was killed at the scene of the crime on the Egba end of the Benin bypass in Benin.

Police received a tip-off that some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers had barricaded the Benin-Lagos road.

The Egba police command acted swiftly and killed one of the suspects, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

Police recovered one cut-to-size double barrel gun, expended cartridge and AK-47 ammunition.

Police are currently combing the nearby bush to catch the fleeing members.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police CP Abutu Yaro, while reacting to the gallant efforts of the policemen under Egba Division, promised that the command under his watch would not allow criminal elements to take over the public space, thereby making life unbearable for the public.

He called for continuous information from members of the public towards checking the crime wave in Edo state.
