A multi-agency team in Laikipia County has recovered livestock that had been stolen from a homestead in Loniek Area within Kirima Sub-county, Kenya's Rift Valley.

The recovery was made after a heavy exchange of gunfire when the security team came into contact with the cattle rustlers at Chapelonin Area in Tiaty.

The livestock, including nine cows and 18 goats, have since been returned to the owner in the Loniek area.

"Police remains committed to the fight against banditry and cattle rustling in the country and ensuring lasting peace in the affected areas," said the police in a statement.
