Police Rescue 13 Abducted Naval Students, Kidnappers Escape With 5.

It was a gun battle along Ehor-Iruekpen road in Benin after Edo Police command engaged suspected kidnappers.

The incident happened on Sunday, 25 July 2021.

Standard Gazette gathered that the gunmen had attacked a bus conveying some students of the Naval Engineering College, Sapele, Delta State, to Abuja.

SG crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe who monitored the development gathered that the armed men opened gunfire upon sighting the bus conveying the Naval students forcing the driver to stop.

The police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call, leading to a gun duel.

Standard Gazette gathered that thirteen of the naval students were rescued, but the gunmen escaped with five.

Contacted, Edo state Police Public Relations officer SP Bello Kontongs who confirmed the incident, said the police tactical team and strike forces had been mobilized into the bush to rescue the five students now missing.

SP Kontongs said, "I can say that the Edo commissioner of police Philip Ogbadu has ordered all police strike forces to mobilize into the bush to rescue the students unhurt".
