Police Rescue Precious Aigbonoga from Kidnappers; One policeman killed

Police in Edo State have rescued the President of Igueben Area Customary Court, Mrs Precious Aigbonoga, from the kidnappers' den.

The police team said one of the officers, DSP Michael Adams of the Anti-kidnapping squad, was killed during the daring rescue.

Mrs Aigbonoga was rescued in the early hours of Thursday, 12 January 2023, following an attack launched on the hideout of the alleged kidnappers by men of the Anti kidnapping Squad of the Edo state police command.

The Standard Gazette reported on Monday, 9 January 2023, how gunmen abducted Mrs Precious Aigbonoga around Ugoneki on her way to Igueben Area Customary Court, Edo State.

The policemen on a bush combing had an encounter with the abductors, which led to an exchange of gunfire.

One police operative was shot dead, while the Area Customary Court judge was rescued unhurt.

A statement issued by the chairman of the Benin Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, Chief Nosa Francis Edo-Osagie, commended the security operatives from the Anti Kidnapping Squad of the Edo state police command for their strong efforts in rescuing Mrs Aigbonoga.

The statement prayed for the repose of the soul of the fallen policeman.
