The Chief Imam of Uromi, Moritada Obhakhoboh, who was abducted on 7 July 2025, has regained his freedom.
The Edo State Police Command in a statement signed by its spokesperson, CSP Joel Yamu, confirmed that the release of the Islamic cleric on Saturday, July 13 was as a result of intense and sustained pressure mounted by its personnel.
The abduction, which occurred at the Angle 80 area of Uromi, was reported to the Uromi Divisional Police Headquarters the following day, prompting a swift response from the Command.
The Command revealed that tactical teams were deployed alongside local vigilante groups to comb the area and track down the perpetrators.
The Imam has since been reunited with his family and is said to be in stable condition.
“The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the efforts of the operatives involved and assured that investigations are ongoing to identify, track, and arrest those behind the kidnapping.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support ongoing efforts with credible information, as security agencies intensify the fight against criminal elements across the state.”
