The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Monday adjourned till Wednesday 15th January 2025 for the commencement of the hearing of seven petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and six other political parties challenging the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The adjournment followed an application filed by the APC and Senator Monday Okpebholo seeking the Tribunal for an adjournment, granted by the Tribunal after all parties agreed to an adjournment.
The Tribunal On resumption on Monday received an application filed by the second and 3rd Respondents Senator Monday Okpebholo and APC, asking the tribunal for an adjournment till 15 January 2025 to enable them to appear for another matter at the supreme court slated 14 January 2025, which was communicated to Counsel in all the matter through their email addresses and WhatsApp numbers informing them of the application for adjournment.
Responding Counsel To Doctor Asue Ighodalo, OLADIPO OSHINOWO, said the legal team of the petitioner was ready to commence trial on resumption on Wednesday but got a letter seeking adjournment late on Sunday, but in the spirit of cooperation, the petitioner was constrained to agree to the request of the application for the adjournment, on the strength of an undertaking that no such request of adjournment shall be made by the respondent, Senator Monday Okpebholo and APC anymore.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, after listening to all the parties, adjourned the trial to Wednesday 15 January 2025.
However, security operatives cut off the area to avoid any form of breakdown of law and order.
