Commercial driver Bolaji Sunday has been hospitalized after allegedly being shot by two unidentified soldiers for parking his vehicle in front of the Oriental Transport Company in Magboro Bus Stop, Ogun State. According to reports, Sunday had gone to the location to meet someone who could connect him with a potential customer.
Upon arriving at the company, which was reportedly guarded by soldiers, Sunday parked his vehicle. However, he was confronted by the soldiers’ leader, who questioned him about the parking spot. Despite attempting to explain his reason for parking there, Sunday was asked to surrender his vehicle’s key and sit in a gutter.
Instead of complying with the order, Sunday continued to explain his purpose at the location, which apparently angered the soldiers. In response, they physically assaulted him, eventually shooting two of his vehicle’s tires. In an attempt to escape the assault, Sunday started running, but one of the soldiers allegedly shot him in the back.

Recounting the incident from his hospital bed at Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo, Obafemi Owode LGA, Sunday expressed his desperate efforts to protect himself. He stated, “I came out on Saturday to meet the person that will give me the number of the customer I was to carry on Sunday. So I parked my vehicle at a location around the Magboro Bridge. I was going to meet the person when the commander of the soldiers asked why I parked my bus at the location and requested my key. He later told me to sit inside the gutter.”
Sunday further explained, “I did not steal anything; I was just waiting for my customer. But before I knew it, they started beating me with a belt. When I tried to hold the belt, they broke my windscreen and shot two of my tires. I quickly jumped down and started running away for my safety, but the soldiers shot my back, and I fell inside the gutter.”
His wife, Oluwatosin, expressed her sorrow over her husband’s condition, stating that despite his pleas to the soldiers to allow him to move his vehicle, they refused and shot him. She said, “My husband just wanted to collect the number of one of his customers at the location where he parked his vehicle. But the soldiers came out suddenly and asked him to sit in the gutter. I wondered what he did wrong; he pleaded that they allow him to drive his bus away from there, but the next thing the soldiers did was to burst his tires. It was when my husband made an effort to run away that the soldiers shot him. The soldiers also destroyed his windscreen.”
At the hospital, Sunday appeared pale, with bandages wrapped around his neck and chest. Several drip containers were observed hanging beside him, indicating the severity of his injuries. The incident has sparked concerns over the alleged abuse of power and violence by the soldiers involved.
