Stay off voting centres - Edo police commissioner warns political thugs
The Edo state commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Dankwara, has warned political thugs, hoodlums and other ballot box snatchers to stay off voting centres on election day on Saturday.
A statement signed by the Edo State Police Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, reassured the people of Edo State and eligible voters in the state of the Protection of their lives and property before, during and after the Upcoming 2023 State Legislative election on Saturday 11th March 2023.
The police, therefore, remind Edo state people that the law on restriction of vehicular movement on the day of the Election is still in force.
The restriction of movement is expected to start from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, 11th March 2023, warning that the violation of the order and other Electoral regulations will be met with strong police resistance.
The statement said the warning is coming on the heels of skirmishes noticed across the state on Saturday, 25th February 2023, during Presidential and National Assembly elections in Edo state which led to pockets of electoral offences in some places in the state by unscrupulous persons.
According to the statement, "The Command is working with all the Security Agencies in the state to ensure that Citizens/Voters comply with the restriction order of no vehicular movement, stating that the synergy among the sister security agencies in the state is robust enough to breakdown any obstacle or force.
"We, therefore, warn all quasi and state own security outfits, including the vigilante's group, to stay clear of election duties as they are not empowered by law to perform such duties or obligations. "
The Command, however, reiterates its efforts to protect the lives and property of the Citizens/Voters before, during and after the 2023 General Elections, as they come out en masse to exercise their civic duties in electing the candidates of their choice.
