The Non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities may embark on industrial action over the sharing formula of the just-approved N22.127 billion for payment of earned allowances for university workers.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) jointly rejected the 25 per cent sharing formula adopted by the Federal Government.
Recall that N40 billion was released by the federal government for earned allowances to the four university-based unions, their academic counterparts of the non-teaching staff, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was allocated the same percentage, thereby leading to a crisis in the university system.

Out of the approved N22.127 billion, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was allocated 75 per cent, leaving SSANU, NASU and NAAT with the remaining 25 per cent.
NASU and SSANU leadership however rejected the sharing formula and has warned the Federal Government to immediately reverse it to prevent a strike action that will disrupt the university system. It has given the federal government two weeks ultimatum.
