It was meant to be a random disciplinary action, but it turned out to be brutal and deadly.
A Teacher at the Federal Government College, Kwali in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Monday, August 9 allegedly beat one of her students, Yahaya Aliyu, to death.
The teacher identified simply as Mrs Gibson was said to have flogged the 13-year-old Junior Secondary school II student for failing to do his assignment.
Aliyu had told his Teacher he was feeling unwell and had visited the school clinic for treatment. On a fateful day, sources informed newsmen that the deceased could not receive treatment because he had not eaten.
On getting back to class, Aliyu could not complete his assignment as Mrs Gibson requested for it. The source confirmed that his Teacher gave him a punishment although he didn’t specify what type.
She was said to later hit a bucket handle on him. He was hit on his head severely. After he was released, he put his head on his table.
“Some of his colleagues noticed that he was quiet and they checked on him. They raised the alarm to the authority and he was rushed to the hospital, that was how he died.”
The FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed the incident, adding that the police was investigating the matter.
