Suspected kidnapper shot dead along Benin-Ekpoma road, say Nigerian Police
A man has been shot dead along Benin-Ekpoma road in Edo State.
The unidentified man, suspected of being a kidnapper, was killed in Obadan forest by the Nigerian Police.
The incident happened after the Edo State police command operatives, and the local vigilante group ran into the suspected kidnappers during a routine patrol around Obadan forest in Uhumwuode local government area.
The Police said the suspects specialize in attacking and robbing innocent travellers on Benin-Auchi road by Obadan junction.
The suspects allegedly invaded the locality on Sunday, 28 August 2022, at about 6pm.
The Police said the suspects shot at them after sighting them, forcing the armed policemen to return fire, killing one of the gang members, while others took to their heels.
Items recovered at the scene were a cut-to-size barrel gun, four live cartridges, one mobile phone and one torchlight.
The officers continued to search the forest to capture the rest of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, commended the gallantry of the operatives and warned criminal elements and their cohorts to relocate from Edo State or face strong police resistance.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
