BENIN—THE suspended Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm O Aidenojie II, has reconciled with Mrs. Betty Okoebor, who he allegedly assaulted on September 28, 2016.
It will be recalled that the Edo State government, which suspended the Onojie for seven days for assault on the woman, directed that he apologised to both Mrs Okoebor and the state government within the period or be deposed as Onojie.
However, Vanguard learned that Mrs Okoebor, was advised by Uromi indigenes to go and meet with the Onojie rather than wait for the royal father to come and apologize to her.
Consequently, she visited the monarch at his Benin residence and apologized to the monarch.
It was gathered that Mrs Okoebor knelt before the monarch, yesterday, in the presence of some elders of Uromi and her relatives to reconcile with the monarch.
However, speaking with journalists after her apology, Okoebor, who said she was not pressured into taking the decision to seek for forgiveness, noted that her tradition forbade a monarch from going to his subject to ask for forgiveness.
On his part, the monarch said it was his duty to always forgive whenever there was any disagreement between him and his subject.
According to him: “Betty is my daughter.
She had a little disagreement with the palace and she has come to apologize. As a father, I have forgiven her and have also prayed for her to have good health, prosperity and success in every of her endeavour.”
