A Federal High Court in Benin City today declined a ruling over its jurisdiction to determine whether the Edo State House of Assembly and the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, have the power to suspend the eighteen local government council chairmen and their Vice.
The Federal High Court subsequently affirmed that the Edo State High Court is the appropriate court to determine the subject.
The day’s proceedings before the Federal High Court are to determine and interpret the suspension of the eighteen local government council chairmen by the Gov. Of Edo State Sen. Monday Okpebholo and the Edo State House Of Assembly over alleged financial misappropriation.
The court presided over by Justice Babatunde Quadri after entertaining arguments by counsels declined jurisdiction on further hearing the matter.

In an interview, Counsel to the defendants who are the Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo and the State House Of Assembly Barr. Andrew Adaze Emwanta said the issues of jurisdiction which falls within the interpretation of the state law were resolved in favour of the state government and the House of Assembly.
On his part, Counsel to the plaintiffs who are the suspended eighteen local government council chairmen and the People’s Democratic Party, Barr. Peters Aigbe said that with the decline of their prayer, attention will now shift to the State High Court for the continuation of the hearing.
Other matters before the state High Court include the impeachment of local government council chairmen.
