The police command in Katsina state has apprehended Abubakar Abdulbashir, a 16-year-old JSS 3 student who allegedly kidnapped his four-year-old cousin and left her in an unfinished building in Marabar Kankara town in the state's Malumfashi LGA.

According to a police report, a woman who was aware of the four-year-old girl's absence was passing by an unfinished structure in the vicinity when she observed the missing daughter with Abdulbasir.
The woman questioned Abdulbasir about what he was doing with the young girl, to which he replied that they were simply chatting and that she could take him home if she wished.
After returning home with the girl and telling her parents about the encounter, the father promptly reported the incident to the Malumfashi Police Station, and Abdulbasir's father was summoned for interrogation regarding his son's whereabouts, who was at the time missing.
When Abdulbasir arrived home, his mother informed him that his father had been summoned by the police and was being questioned about his whereabouts. Abdulbasir then made the decision to surrender and confessed to the crime.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Superintendent of Police, SP Isah Gambo, said:
“One Sanusi Abubakar of Marabar-Kankara village in Malumfashi LGA reported to the police that since his 4-years-old daughter, Halimatu Sanusi got missing and all efforts to trace her whereabouts proved abortive. He later received a phone call that his daughter has been kidnapped, and he is being threatened to pay the sum of seventy thousand naira (N70,000) or risk losing her.
