The Gulder Ultimate Search re-emerged on our TV screens again this week after 7 years it last aired. Nigerians are loving it. Just as contestants in a jungle jostle for the ultimate prize by discovering a precious item, it thus seem to be the very case for Nigeria. The country is in a mess in the wilderness.
A Naira could exchange for $600 by December and 98 percent of revenues are used in servicing loan repayment. Moreso, the government keeps borrowing to fund infrastructure even as it shamefully asked International creditors for the cancellation of debt. President Muhammadu Buhari’s plea at the UN General Assembly for debt cancellation is very unfortunate, even as it is on the verge of borrowing again.
The plot is lost and the matter is beyond the king. Economic indices are enough measurement to certify the success or failure of a government. People are not getting richer. Poverty smells like dung from North to South.
