Three suspects that deal in human parts have been arrested in Benin city, Edo state.

On the 6th of May, 2022, at about 10:30hrs, the Edo State Police Command operatives busted a criminal gang specializing in vandalizing vaults and graveyards to desecrate corpses and decimate parts for commercial purposes.

Police identified one of the suspects, Josephine Adun, 40, of Omono Street, off Stadium Road, Benin City as the leader of the gang.

Other gang members in custody are Oyegoke Olushola, 42, of 82 Zomi-Zomi street, off Upper Sokponba Road is identified as the herbalist.

Charity Goodluck, 29, of Forest Road, Ologbo, bought the skull for forty thousand Naira (N40,000) for an alleged ritual.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State, CP Abutu Yaro, while assuring the public of the command’s commitment to the fight against all forms of criminal activities, used the opportunity to call on all Local Government Areas of the state and other agencies of government who are empowered in safeguarding the cemetery to place more efforts in keeping the tombs safe.

He said the activities of criminals who desecrate cemeteries need to be checked immediately.

He assured the three suspects would be thoroughly investigated.
