Residents of Isibhelua quarters in the Ihumudumu area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, were thrown into panic following the abduction of three male students from a private hostel by suspected armed Fulani bandits.

The incident occurred as the victims were driving into their compound. According to a brother of one of the abducted students:

“My brother and his friends were driving into the compound when suddenly some fierce-looking Fulani men emerged from an ambush, armed with guns, and took them away.”

Following the abduction, other occupants of the hostel have deserted the building out of fear for their safety.

Kidnapping has become a persistent menace in Ekpoma and its environs in recent years, with residents no longer able to move freely, especially at night, despite previous efforts by the government to curb the crime.

The father of one of the victims, Mr Ojo, who is currently ill, made an emotional appeal to the government and security agencies:

“I am devastated to hear that my son and his friends have been kidnapped. Where do I start from? I am appealing to the authorities to please help rescue them. I cannot bear the pain of losing my son in my present health condition.”

Residents of Ihumudumu have decried the rising wave of abductions in the area and called for urgent and adequate security measures.

As of the time of this report, the abductors have not made any ransom demand, and the Edo State Police Command has not yet confirmed the whereabouts of the abducted students or provided an official statement on rescue efforts.
