Fire destroyed a 150 MVA transformer owned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Saturday.
The incident happened at the 330/132/33KVA substation along Sapele road Benin, Edo State.
The fire started at about 8am on Sunday morning and a combined efforts of four fire fighting officials put it off at about 11.30am.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of filing this report, but an eyewitness, David Osasu said he had an explosion inside the transmission company followed by a cloud of smoke at around 8am.
“The transformer exploded in the money at about 8am. It took over an hour’s before help came from the fire service as TCN doesn’t have a fire service,” he said.
He said it was shameful for TCN which control more than two states does not have its own fire fighting equipment.
Firefighters from Nigerian Army, Airforce, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and Delta State fire service, including that of the Niger Delta Power Holding company came to the rescue around 11am.
The entrance of the event was locked and security personnel did not allow journalists access.
