…police reunite children with family

The Nigerian police have successfully reunited two children abandoned by suspected traffickers with their respective families.

The two children, Divine Lucky (12) and her sister Angel Lucy (5), were seen wandering around the Tombia-Etegwe roundabout in Bayelsa State on 27 July 2023. A local community chief found them and brought them to the Akenfa Police Division.

It was discovered by law enforcement that a suspected child trafficker took the children from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Yenogoa.

On 29 July 2023, the Executive Chairman of Khana local government area in Rivers State, Dr Thomas Bariere, travelled with the parents of the children to the state. They were reunited with the help of the Rivers Police Command, who were informed of the situation.

Currently, an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend an unidentified criminal who is still at large.

The state’s police commissioner, CP Tolani Alausa, has instructed all police officers to increase their monitoring of people involved in child trafficking within the state.
