It was an unhappy day for gangs targetting commuters in Benin City after one of their previous victims spotted them.

Edo police command arrested two fake taxi drivers who specialized in luring passengers into buying a fake diamond.

The suspects, Ojo Christopher and Mohammed Ibrahim, pose as passengers and drivers and lure commuters into buying fake diamonds or being thrown out of a moving vehicle.

On their unlucky day, they had been stationed along Sapele road about to pick an innocent passenger when their luck ran out.

One of the victims spotted a member of the gang along Sapele road in Benin and raised the alarm.

The suspect was arrested and handover to the police.

Standard Gazette learned that the duo usually brings out a stone and claim it is a diamond, convincing the passengers to buy it.

It was gathered that passengers who refused to buy into their sham would be robbed and thrown out of the car.

In a brief interview with the prime suspect, Christopher Ojo said, “Our only work is to deceive people and collect their money. We usually encourage them to buy a diamond which to us is a stone.

“It is only greedy people that fall for it. We sometimes throw people out of our car if they don’t cooperate with us”.

The police are to arraign the two suspects in court after the completion of an investigation.
