An undergraduate of the University of Benin in Edo state has been shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.
Augustine Izu was killed off-campus, at his private residence at No.5, Image Street, Off Federal government college Road, Ugbowo in Benin city, Edo.
Augustine, a student of political science was killed hours after writing his last examination paper.
Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered that four gunmen attacked the student on Tuesday, June 29 2021.
According to SG findings, the gunmen, with full face covering, stormed Izu’s house on Monday and went straight to his bedroom.
The unidentified men fired at him, killing him on the spot and a stray bullet hit his friend, Walter Emeka, in the arm.
Officers from Ugbowo police division attended the scene where they evacuated Uzi’s lifeless body to the mortuary.
Autopsy to be conducted in due course.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bello Kontongs confirmed the incident.
He assured that the Police would ensure that the assailants are brought to book.
In a separate incident, another student of the University of Benin, Joshua Oginigbo, has been shot.
Joshua is a student of Computer Engineering at UNIBEN.
SG gathered that he was shot around the June 12 Secretariat on the campus on Tuesday, June 29 2021.
Joshua, who was shot on the head, is currently in a life-threatening condition and receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
