Goodnews Ibade, the Public Relations Officer of the Students Union Government of the University of Benin, Edo State has been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force.
He was arrested on Wednesday.
Ibade, who spoke to NAIJA CENTER NEWS at the police station said the school authorities gave his identity to the police for a reason, he said he is yet to understand.

Explaining, The student PRO said he gave an identity of a certain taxi driver in the campus to the school securities on Friday because he didn’t register.
Ibade added that there have been reports of insecurity relating to kidnap and rapes in the campus, hence, the students union moves to assist in cleansing the drivers without proper credentials.
“I was invited over for questioning. I had an issue with a cab driver on the campus that was not registered. Before now, we have been having issues of kidnap and rape of our students, so we approached the driver and handed him over to the campus security for proper investigation. This happened on Monday but surprisingly I was invited by the campus security today and was handed over to the police that the Vice-Chancellor has approved my arrest.
“They also told me that the police sent a report and the VC approved by giving my credentials: my name, ID, department, level and Mat no were handed over to the police.”
The PRO wondered how the issue turned but suspected his current travail may be related to the bad blood between the school authority and the student union.
“I can’t report a case to the campus police and in turn, I am now the one being handed over to the police. I am trying to look between the line, the issue was between me, the cab driver and the Attorney general but they singled me out and I am very confused about that”. He added.
The University of Benin Public Relations Officer, Mr. Micheal Osasuyi who confirmed the arrest to NAIJA CENTER NEWS distant the institution.
Micheal said he was informed that the SUG PRO assaulted a driver which led his arrest.
“His arrest is not in connection with anything that has to do with the school. He had an issue with a cabman, so it was just a private matter.
“I advise people to stop misinforming the general public on the issue. I was told he assaulted a cabman and removed the driver’s plate number, so they dragged themselves to the police station”. He explained.
