Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, receives Chairman of the Nigerian Global Business Forum at the State House

Abuja, Nigeria – His Excellency Professor Oluyemi Osinbajo SAN GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria officially received the Chairman of the Nigerian Global Business Forum, Prince Afolabi Andu at the Villa on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 following a courtesy visit.

The visit accorded Prince Andu a chance to speak in-depth on the important role Nigerian professionals and business people continue to play around the world, emphasizing the urgent need for an environment that will encourage them to make meaningful contributions to nation-building.

During the meeting, the Nigerian Global Business Forum and the Nigerian Achievers Awards Institute also presented His Excellency, Professor Oluyemi Osinbajo the Sterling Leadership Award.

The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding leadership qualities that have been his hallmark for over fifty years, dating as far back as his secondary school days at Igbobi College.

The Vice President’s leadership qualities, both in the public and private sectors, have impacted and continue to impact many lives.

One of the key initiatives that Vice President Osinbajo has championed is the Ease of Doing Business reforms. These reforms are aimed at improving the business environment in Nigeria by simplifying business regulations and reducing the time and cost of starting and operating a business. Through these reforms, Nigeria has improved its ranking on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index, moving from 170th in 2017 to 131st in 2020.

Another major initiative that Vice President Osinbajo has spearheaded is the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinics. The clinics are aimed at providing business support services to MSMEs across Nigeria, including access to finance, market linkages, and technical assistance.

Since the launch of the clinics in 2017, over 600,000 MSMEs have been reached, and over 400,000 of them have received support services.

In addition to these initiatives, Vice President Osinbajo has also been a strong advocate for entrepreneurship and innovation.

He has supported the establishment of innovation hubs across Nigeria, which provide a platform for entrepreneurs to develop their ideas, access mentorship, and connect with investors.

Through these efforts, Nigeria’s digital economy has seen significant growth, with the sector now contributing over 14% of Nigeria’s GDP.

Furthermore, Vice President Osinbajo has championed the use of technology to drive financial inclusion in Nigeria.

He has supported the launch of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, which aims to ensure that at least 80% of Nigeria’s adult population has access to financial services. Under this initiative, Nigeria has made significant progress, with the number of adults with access to financial services increasing from 56.8% in 2016 to 63.2% in 2018.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prince Afolabi Andu praised the Vice President’s dynamic leadership posture and expressed confidence that he will continue be a highly revered voice for Africa on the world stage.

Dr Adetoro Bank-Omotoye, the CEO of Cruxstone Development and sponsors of the Crystal Sterling Leadership Award, joined Prince Afolabi Andu in presenting the award to the Vice President.

In response to the award, Vice President Osinbajo spoke proudly of Prince Afolabi Andu’s commitment to the global promotion of Nigeria, citing his personal knowledge of Prince Andu’s unwavering commitment to the Global Nigerian Project which dates back over thirty years.

Other guests present at this very intimate meeting included Mr Ade Ipaye, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Vice President, Engr Tunde Osibamowo, Presidential Senior Special Adviser to the President, Head Presidential Delivery Unit and Pastor Gbolade Okenla, Member NBBF and resident Pastor, City of David, Abuja.

The Nigerian-Global Business Forum is dedicated to promoting Nigeria’s economic potential to the world.
