Water Shortage In Irrua Teaching Hospital: A Foreseen Calamity- Group Writes Health Minister Ehanire

A socio-political group, the Benin National Congress, BNC has drawn the attention of the minister of health, Dr.  Osage Ehaniee to the “unconditional sedimentary borehole drilling and installation of water circulation mechanism at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, in Edo State.”

The group said this became imperative following the outbreak of the dreaded Coronavirus in Edo state and across other states of the federation.

In an open letter on Friday titled  “Water shortage in Irrua Teaching hospital: a foreseen calamity foretold, as Nigeria grapples with COVID-19 pandemic”, signed by Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo fcdm, it’s national President and Hon. Orobosa Omo Ojo JP, Secretary, Board of Trustees, the BNC urged the minister to quickly address the situation in the hospital and it’s environs.

“Following the report of a concerned medical professionals put together by the Benin National Congress, on assessment of Edo State Health facilities, in the light COVID-19 challenges, it has become expedient to passionately appeal for the immediate and unconditional sedimentary borehole drilling and installation of water circulation mechanism at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, in Edo State. “
The group reminded the Minister that the Irua Teaching Hospital is the biggest Lassa Fever center in the South South geo -political zone.   

“Our appeal becomes inevitable, considering its prime, as a COVID-19 pandemic testing centre for South-South Nigeria, having and still serving as the largest Lassa Fever treatment and research centre in southern Nigeria as a whole.

“Added to this, our investigators revealed also that necessary hospital consumables are lacking, making the work of doctors, nurses and other paramedics very difficult, with the results that some of the health providers have become infested with COVID-19 and Lassa Fever. 

“We are constrained to avail ourselves this medium due to the urgency our call demands in the circumstance of pandemic the coronavirus has assumed.”
It went further urging  Dr. Ehanire to quickly attend to the situation.

“As a respected and loved son of Edo State, we urgently urge you to act swiftly to save precious lives,” it added.
