Why The #BeLikeNgoziChallenge Trend Should Make Us Proud

Nigeria’s social media space is a shade of many fortunes, sometimes of laughter, agony, dragging of celebrities and politicians, memes and satire. Don’t forget the comic side of Nigerians that can heal depressions.

Yesterday, the announcement of Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization came immediately with a hashtag and reactions which later turned into a challenge.

Ngozi is known for her trademark glasses, Ankara wears and headties so simple for her esteemed positions according to today’s standards of fashionistas and online fashion police.

The #belikeNgoziChallenge is a trend where women imitate her dressing style and place a picture of the WTO DG side by side with theirs.

As the first African and the first woman to achieve that feat, she’s not only a role model to many, but also some great news to be proud of after other negative trends in recent times.
