If President Muhammadu Buhari insists, Nasir el-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna, says he will "reluctantly" run for president in 2023 on a combined ticket with Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation.
El-Rufai made the remarks during a Channels Television interview on Wednesday.
Several politicians have declared their candidacy for the presidency of the United States in 2023, while others are still consulting.
Former Rivers governor Amaechi has been said to be considering a presidential candidacy.
When asked about Amaechi's rumored presidential ambitions, el-Rufai acknowledged that the minister of transportation is interested in running for president with him as vice president on a combined ticket.
The Kaduna governor went on to say that he has constantly stated that he will not seek any political office in 2023.
"Rotimi Amaechi is interested in running for president. He has the right to do so but I’m not running for anything. I’m not going to be on his ticket.” El-Rufai noted that he will only accept to run with Amaechi if Mr President asked him to.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
