Determined to give the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, a run for dominance in Kogi State, a coalition of opposition parties in the State has unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their platform for the 2027 elections.
The unveiling was made during an “Expanded Caucus Meeting” on Monday, attended by the officials of the party and prominent members of the opposition in the state.
Speaking at the event held at Kafas Multi-Purpose Event Centre, Lokoja, a former Senator that represented Kogi West and leader of the coalition in the state, Senator Tunde Ogheha, said that the alliance by opposition parties in the ADC is not only aimed at ousting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power but rather “to salvage the nation and its citizens from the current socio-economic woes.”
He urged the electorate to act wisely in the next elections, noting that they are the ultimate judges between the ruling party and the opposition.
He also announced plans by the ADC to commence registration of members in all the wards of the state, aimed at expanding the party’s membership and reach.
He stated that the party is open to everyone, regardless of their background or political affiliation.
Earlier in his address, the state chairman of the party, Hon. Kingsley Oga, extended a warm welcome to new entrants into the party, assuring them of a warm reception and opportunities to contribute to the party’s victory in the next elections.
He emphasised the need for a change in power at both the state and federal levels, citing the current challenges facing the state and the nation.
The gathering paid a glowing tribute to the immediate past President, President Muhammadu Buhari who died in the London Hospital after a brief illness on Sunday.
Senator Ogheha explained that the coalition had already scheduled the programme before the news of the death of the former President Bihari filtered to town yesterday.
He therefore ordered both Islamic and Christian prayers for the repose of the soul of the former President and prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
