In a disputed victory, Ododo of the All Progress Congress, APC defeated his closest rival, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, PDP, having scored 446 237 against 259 048 votes of the SDP.

Alhaji Ododo was sworn in by the Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Josiah Mejabi, at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre.

The Governor was administered the oath of office allegiance at Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre in Lokoja at exactly 2:27 pm. after his Deputy, Elder Joel Salifu Oyibo, who had earlier taken his turn at 2:18 pm amidst cheers from a mammoth crowd.

The Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who represented President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, witnessed the ceremony.

The inauguration of Ododo brought to an end the government of erstwhile Yahaya Bello, who ruled the state with iron hands.

Former Governor Bello left the state fragmented with ethnic strife, anguished with the civil servants and pain on his former appointees and associates.

However, the election’s outcome has thrown the state into a Cold War between the political combatants who had now shifted the battle to the tribunal to seek redress over alleged electoral fraud.
