On Wednesday, May 18, the couple followed the former transportation minister to Dutse, Jigawa, for a meeting with delegates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Jigawa State Governor, Baduru stated: “There will be no contest between me and Amaechi. It is either I run or he runs, but for sure, I cannot run against him.”

Fusion 774, a political and socio-economic advocacy group that initially supported Buratai’s presidential campaign, has also declared support for Amaechi. After Amaechi renounced his bid to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, the group stated it is now standing behind him.

Fusion 774’s national coordinator, Sadiq Jikta, said the group opted to back Amaechi after Buratai, who had stood down, requested the group to support any APC presidential candidate who shared his vision for lifting Nigeria out of its current economic straits.
