His decision was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Doagara at plenary on Thursday.

Hon. Agbonayinma was a loyalist to the ousted former Chairman, Ali Modu-Sheriff. The rep member alleged that he took the decision because his party had completely sidelined him.

He claimed that his party and colleagues shut the door against him after Sheriff lost at the Supreme Court.

PDP had lost six of its members to the APC and Agbonayinma defection makes it seven. Others who had jump their ships are Edward Pwajok (Plateau), Adamu Kamale (Adamawa), Hassan Sale (Benue), Zephaniah Jisalo (FCT), Yusuf Tijjani (Kogi), and Nnanna Igbokwe (Imo).

Rejoicing over the defection, the deputy minority leader, Chukwuma Onyema described Agbonayinma’s defection as a great relief.

He added that “It’s like getting rid of a cancer”

Since the opposition party held its convention in Abuja, it may have opened its door for its member to troop out to other political parties.

On Wednesday, a group of five chieftains of the party reportedly opened a new office in Asokoro in Abuja.
