The war of words between the Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its All Progressives Congress, APC counterpart is not abatting anytime soon, as another shot has been fired.
The furore between both parties is coming on the heels of a scathing criticism targeted at Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, where the All Progressives Congress had described him as “senseless”.
Recall that the Publicity Secretary of the APC, AbdulAzeez Olatunde, on Sunday demanded that Governor Makinde issue an unreserved apology to the people of Oyo State for ridiculing the state by meddling in the appointment of the Chief Returning Officer for the just concluded Ondo State governorship election.
The statement said Governor Makinde was telling the whole world that he won the 2019 government election fraudulently with his utterances ahead of the Ondo poll, where the incumbent governor Rotimi Akeredolu won.
The APC spokesman said; “Honestly, Governor Seyi Makinde is daily telling the whole world with his public utterances that he won the 2019 election fraudulently,” the APC spokesman had said.
But in a swift reaction on Monday, the Oyo state PDP chided the APC for its harsh comments against Mr Makinde, adding that the comments from the party smack off as “unrestrained effrontery and guts”.
The PDP in a statement through its state Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji, said that the All Progressives Congress as a party was known as a platform with an unbridled penchant for seeking public attention.
He said, “The Oyo All Progressives Congress, through its Publicity Secretary, AbdulAzeez Olatunde, threw caution to the wind in the name of politics by calling the governor ‘senseless’; wouldn’t it have been polite and respectful in the spirit of playing opposition to apply decorum in their choices of words especially when addressing the governor?
According to the PDP, the statement by the APC was disrespectful and disparaging to the reputation of Governor Seyi Makinde.
“We are not unaware of their source of unrestrained effrontery and guts, being the party in control at the centre, to disrespect, disparage, malign, and bring the hard-earned reputation of Governor Makinde to disrepute in the eyes of the members of the public.
The PDP added that Governor Makinde was only in Ondo State to perform his legitimate duties as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Campaign for its candidate, Barrister Eyitayo Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
Governor Makinde was actively involved in the campaign to ensure Barrister Jegede emerged victoriously and was constantly in battle with Governor Akeredolu and Ondo APC over his utterances as well some of his opposition to the process by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
