The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must be sick as a parrot over an unending allegation since the commencement of his presidential campaign.

Michael Achimugu, a former aide to Hauwa Atiku-Uwais, the daughter of Atiku Abubakar, said the PDP candidate "is not fit to lead Nigeria."

Mr Achimugu, who started working for the PDP candidate in August 2017, said he left his former boss after finding out that "behind his facade, he is not what those of us who truly believed in him thought he was."

A few days ago, the media consultant claimed that Atiku's children, particularly Hauwa and Mohammed, plan to enrich themselves through their father's presidency.

Achimugu recently released a viral video exposing Atiku's improprieties. He explained that he had taken steps to protect himself from potential backlash for the series of disclosures he would be making. "My lawyers are well briefed and equipped for the mother of all exposures once something happens to me or any member of my family," he said.

In the video, Achimugu revealed Atiku's explanation for the N100 million reportedly paid into his account by jailed Governor Joshua Dariye of Plateau state. According to Atiku, he did not commit corruption directly but through a proxy, stealth or SPV (special purpose vehicle). Achimugu also revealed on the website how one of Atiku's friends had allegedly appropriated a media company he had set up with billions of naira.

The video has formed part of an obstacle to Atiku, 76, who has lost five times for the Office of the President of Nigeria.

Speaking with The Standard Gazette on Tuesday evening, Achimugu said, "not just him; having served as media strategist to his daughter, Hauwa Atiku-Uwais and worked closely with his son Mohammed, I realized that the dysfunctionality of that family and their motivation for aiming for Aso Rock would destroy this country."

The main opposition party may undermine the revelation. Still, it would remain a reference to the ruling camp, the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who said during his rally in Akure, Ondo State, on January 7 that "Atiku (Abubakar) cannot do it, he doesn't want to build a better nation instead he will rather sell your birthright to the highest builders. Atiku policies and actions are nothing."

Achimugu is not the only Atiku's former allies speaking out. It was gathered that many of his aides have shared secretly recorded videos with Achimugu to share on their behalf.

When asked why he waited for the election period to speak out, Achimugu said he had to "sensitize citizens about the dangers of voting in this family" and to "ensure that young Nigerians who serve politicians never get taken for granted again."

The former media strategist also denied having another principal, saying he had turned down requests from Peter Obi's camp.

"I don't have a new party/principal. Even when I worked with Atiku, I did not join the PDP. When I left Atiku, I served excellently as a media consultant to Prof. Kingsley Moghalu. When the good Prof did not get his ticket, I announced that I would not be working with any other Presidential candidate for 2023.

"I was openly courted by the Obi people; their tweets are still there. I politely declined. I am doing this now because I have managed to gather the mental and psychological strength to do so," he told The Standard Gazette.

"Atiku Abubakar should not be President, and if this is the only role I play in saving Nigerians, based on what I know, I am satisfied. In any case, what better time than when Nigerians need information to guide their voting choices?"

Mr Atiku's apologists are upset over the revelation as Achimugu claimed, "my life was threatened months ago when I announced that I'd be campaigning against him (Atiku)

Is Atiku Fit to be President?

"No, he is not," Achimugu has no confidence in Atiku leading the country as he claimed he has evidence to back his allegations.

He added, "Atiku Abubakar is a desperate man incapable of honouring agreements. His word is not his bond, and his proclivity for corruption, as self-confessed, will destroy this country. Not one to be trusted, and I know this from direct, personal experience."

Achimugu's allegation is one of many troubles Atiku has been battling since he won the PDP presidential ticket.

In his political party, five governors known as the G5 have vowed to work against his success if the party's National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, remains in power.

Nigerian ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has refused to endorse him even though he served as Obasanjo's Vice President. Instead, he wrote a lengthy open letter to Nigerians on January 1, 2023, to vote for the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.

As Atiku continues to battle scandals outside and within his political party, the serial loser may be heading towards his sixth defeat, making him the most defeated presidential candidate in Nigeria's history.

APC calls for Atiku Abubakar's arrest over Achimugu's allegations

The Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, has vowed to take up a case against the PDP candidate over the money laundering allegation.

Keyamo had asked law enforcement agencies to arrest Atiku based on audio released by Achimugu.

The audio showed how Atiku, who served as the Vice President of Nigeria, allegedly used shell organizations to divert public funds.

In an interview with Channels Television, Keyamo came up with three documents that linked Achimugu to Mr Atiku.

The Nigerian Minister said during his appearance on Channels TV, "I'm going to court. And so, if they wish this away, it will not go away. I'm doing this under three capacities — first of all, I'm a member of the inner bar who has sworn to defend and uphold our laws. Secondly, I'm an ordinary concerned Nigerian who has the right to bring perpetrators of crime to book. Thirdly, before I was appointed minister, I was an active prosecutor for the EFCC for more than 15 years.

"So, I have the duty to help them to follow up on whistleblowers.

"I am proceeding to court. If Asiwaju says I'm diverting from his campaign, 'don't campaign for me again', I'll say, please take your campaign because this is national interest. I have taken it personally."

APC Sponsoring Achimugu to blackmail Atiku, says PDP.

The Spokesperson for the PDP, Dino Melaye, says Bola Tinubu was responsible for Achimugu's sudden development of conscience, an attempt to blackmail Atiku.

"Mike (Achimugu) is being sponsored by the APC, Mike is being sponsored by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that is why they need to follow up for the project they started in Mike. Mike is not a media aide of Atiku Abubakar," Melaye said on Channels Television'sPolitics Todayon Monday,

"The letters he brought online which Festus (Keyamo) is referring to are letters from support groups. It does not have the mandate of Atiku Abubakar, it is not from our campaign council and those letters were written by people that have no close ties with Atiku Abubakar."
