The office sealing was carried out on the state government's directive, following a court order, as a result of an executive order prohibiting the location of campaign offices in residential areas.

This is the latest in a series of controversies involving Abubakar and Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike, who was elected on the PDP platform.

There has been tension within the PDP, with calls for the removal of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu. In recent months, Governor Wike has been seen with candidates from other parties, despite remaining a member of the PDP.

In October, Governor Wike claimed that Abubakar had formed the PDP presidential campaign council in Rivers "without a whole (sic) governor of a state having a contribution."
